In May 2017 the Department of Archeology and Ancient History, Lund University conducted an archeological excavation at Kämpinge 24: 2 in Räng sn, RAÄ 4: 1, Skåne. The property of Kämpinge 24: 2 lies within the ancient site RAÄ 4: 1 in Räng sn, which extends 740 m x 40-390 m in the NNV-SSÖ direction. The field leader of the excavations was Jan Apel (Lund university). Joen Leffler (Lund University Historical Museum) functioned as excavation assistant and was responsible for handling the finds, Nicolo dell’Unto (Lund university) was responsible for the digitial documentation system and Giacomo Landeschi and Andreas Nilsson (both Lund university) functioned as field assistants. Students from the courses ”Archaeology in practice” and ”Digital archaeology II” at Lund university participated in the fieldwork.
Large amounts of objects in flint and rock have been collected within the boundaries of the property (see Leffler 2010). These show that the site was used intensively during the period 6000-4000 BC. Historical sources and maps show that the site Kämpinge 24: 2 is not likely to any great extent to the land use that took place in the fields around Höllviken during the 17th and 19th centuries. This means that more or less intact cultural layers from prehistoric times can be preserved on this site. The study area is currently undeveloped and the parts of it that concerns the excavation consist of arable land. The 2017 field campaign consisted of the continued excavation of Trench 11 which had been excavated already during the 2016 field campaign. During the 2017 field campaign Trench 11 was extended to the north and southeast.
