The 2016 filed campaign at Kämpinge took place between the 23 to the 27 of May and was carried out by the Department of Archaeology and Ancient History, Lund University. The excavation was led by Jan Apel and was a continuation of the 2014 and 2015 excavations of the site RAÄ 4 in Rängs sn, Kämpinge.

During the 2016 field season, one of the aims was to continue the excavation around Trench 6 by enlarging it. The new trench in this area was named Trench 12.

In order to uncover a larger area in order to be able to detect larger structure and cultural layers, a 116 square meter trench was taken up by machine immediately north of Trench 9 (Trench 11). Several features and cultural layers, most of them dated to historical times, were identified and excavated in Trench 11. The remnants of the hearth that was excavated in 2015 (Trench 100) were also excavated and documented. In addition, a cultural layer with flint debris, which was dated to the Stone Age, was located in Trench 11.
